Filmography Credits

How do I correct/add credits to my filmography?

If you already have at least one credit in IMDb (and are a registered user), please visit your filmography page by searching for your name with a regular IMDb search. All pages on IMDb feature a search box at the top center of the page. You need to enter your name and click the "Go" button to start the search.

After you've reached your page that contains your credits, scroll down to the bottom and click the button labeled "Edit page". You'll be taken to the appropriate page to update your information. This involves three steps:

Step 1: Choosing what you'd like to update

The page will include several categories with a drop-down next to each one. You need to use the menu to select all categories for which you wish to add new information. For example, if you want to add two new acting credits, click on the menu on the line marked "Actors" or "Actresses" and choose "Add 2 credits"; if your new credit is for "recording mixer", you need to select "Add 1 Credit" in the Sound Department section etc. If you have several credits to add, you can select multiple items. The categories on this page should all be self-explanatory.

Any job outside the categories explicitly listed (such as location manager, script supervisor, stand-in etc.) should be submitted as Other Crew filmography entries.

The middle section of the page includes categories that will appear under your Biographical Information section; the bottom section has various other categories, such as the ones for adding a link to your homepage.

Please note many credit categories also include an option called Correct/Delete. You should choose this box if you wish to supply a correction or deletion to your filmography. If you spot an error or something that needs to be corrected, ticking this box will present you with a form that will let you perform corrections on your existing filmography data. You must always supply an explanatory comment together with any correction/deletion so that IMDb data manager that will process your data will be able to better understand what you're doing, especially in case you're deleting something. This is to make sure no valid information is deleted or changed unintentionally.

After you've selected all the categories for which you wish to supply new data, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the button marked Continue. You will be brought to a new page for the next step.

Step 2: Entering the information

This new page will have several text input boxes for the categories you specified in your previous step. You will need to enter the title of the film/show for which you're submitting your credit. When adding new credits, you need to be extremely precise because the system is very strict about spellings, years, and using the proper symbols. This is due to the fact that different punctuation and format is used by the database to distinguish between feature films, TV movies, TV series and other types of titles.

The format is as follows:

  • Feature Film (1999)
  • Direct to Video (1999) (V)
  • Movie of the Week (1999) (TV)
  • "Series" (1999)
  • "Mini series" (1999)

In other words, a TV series or miniseries will always have its title surrounded by quote marks; a TV movie needs to have the words "(TV)" appended to its title; and, most important, all titles must include a release year. The new titles submission form has a detailed explanation of the format and syntax for titles.

Important: you can only submit credits for films/TV productions that are already listed in the database. If a title is not yet present in the database, you need to submit it as a new entry first. You can submit your credit at the same time. Click here to learn how to add a new title to IMDb.

Most filmography additions will have a field marked attribute. This field can be used to provide additional details on the credit. For example (this is the most common usage) if you worked on a film but your name did not appear in the on-screen credits, you need to specify (uncredited) in the attribute field.

The attribute field is not the place to include extra information like the name of the film's director, or the fact that the TV movie for which you're adding the credit was a pilot, or anything else. If in doubt, leave this field blank.

When you've entered all the information you wanted, go to the bottom of the page and click on the Check these updates button to proceed to the next step.

Step 3: Verifying the information

If you have entered everything correctly, your data will be ready to submit and you will see a Submit these updates button at the bottom of the page. You can also click on the link Click to see full summary to display a detailed list of the changes you're about to send. Otherwise, errors or potential problems will be highlighted via a yellow or red background and the form will ask you to correct them or acknowledge them before you're allowed to proceed (for example you may have submitted an incorrect title or an unknown job occupation).

If you need to correct anything, just follow the on-screen instructions and correct your submission or supply the missing data and click on Re-check these updates to try again.

To complete your update, click on the Submit these updates button and your changes will be sent to IMDb Editors for processing. You will also receive an e-mail confirmation of your submission.

Processing times vary depending on the number and type of credits you submitted. See this table for an estimate of when your credits might be added to the database.

Tracking your contribution

You can now track the status of your Credit submission and if it has not been approved, we'll tell you the reason why.

If you are using the mobile apps, mobile website or desktop website you can access this feature via the 'Track your contribution' button, which has been added to the submission email receipt. Additionally, if you are using the desktop website, you can also use the 'Track Contribution' button now found in your contribution history page.

Clicking this button will take you to IMDb Contributor, our new contribution specific site where you will be shown the status of your request.
